Winter in London is wet, dark and cold, and gritted roads are hard on motorcycles. A little care keeps your bike reliable.
Wash off road salt
Rinse the bike with cool water after riding on gritted roads, especially the underside, wheels, brakes and exhaust. Salt causes corrosion quickly.
Protect metal parts
A corrosion protection spray on exposed metal, keeping it away from brakes and tyres, helps prevent damage.
Look after the chain
Wet weather washes lube off. Clean and lubricate the chain more often.
Battery care
Cold weather weakens batteries. If you ride less in winter, use a suitable battery charger or maintainer.
Tyres and brakes
Check tread and pressures regularly. Grip is lower in the cold and wet. Make sure brakes are in good condition.
Lights
Darker days mean more riding with lights on. Check every bulb and keep lenses clean.
