How Often Should You Service Your Motorbike? — King`s Bike | Motorbike Service | Motorcycle shop

It is one of the questions we hear most at our East London workshop. The short answer is: follow your service book. The longer answer depends on how and where you ride.

Mileage and time

Most manufacturers set service intervals by mileage and by time, whichever comes first. Many modern bikes have intervals somewhere between 4,000 and 10,000 miles, and at least once a year. Smaller 125cc bikes and scooters often need attention more frequently. Your owner's manual gives the exact schedule for your model.

Why London riding changes things

Stop-start traffic, short trips, rain, potholes and road salt in winter are all hard on a bike. If you commute daily or ride for a delivery platform, your oil, brakes, tyres, chain or drive belt will wear faster than the brochure suggests. For these riders, an interim service between full services is money well spent.

Signs you should not wait

Brakes feel spongy or noisy; the chain is loose or noisy; tyres look worn or cracked; the engine is harder to start or sounds different; a warning light is on; or the bike feels different in any way.

What happens at a service

A full service normally covers oil and filter, air filter, spark plugs, brakes, chain, tyres, bearings, suspension, cables, coolant, battery and lights. At King's Bike we follow your manufacturer's schedule and explain everything before you ride away.
