Buying a Used Motorcycle: What to Check — King`s Bike | Motorbike Service | Motorcycle shop

A used bike can be great value, but problems can hide behind a fresh polish.

Paperwork

Check the V5C logbook matches the seller and the bike's frame and engine numbers. Check MOT history online and look at service records.

Visual checks

Look for oil leaks, fork seal leaks, corrosion, damaged levers, scuffs on bar ends and footpegs that suggest a drop, and mismatched paint.

Wear items

Tyres, brakes, chain and sprockets cost money to replace. Factor them into the price.

Start from cold

Ask the seller not to warm the bike up before you arrive. Listen for rattles and check for smoke.

Test ride

Check brakes, gear changes, clutch, steering and for any warning lights.

Get a second opinion

A pre-purchase inspection by a mechanic can save you from an expensive mistake. King's Bike also has used motorcycles for sale, all checked by our mechanics. Call or WhatsApp 07599 004371.
