Why Is My Scooter Losing Power? — Easy Bikes Motorcycles Shop

A scooter that feels slower than it used to usually has a simple cause. Here are the most common ones we find at our NW10 workshop.

Worn CVT belt or rollers

The most common reason. The scooter revs but does not pull, especially from a standstill or up hills.

Blocked air filter

A dirty air filter starves the engine of air. It is a cheap part to replace at every service.

Old spark plug

A worn plug causes misfires and poor performance.

Fuel problems

Old fuel, a blocked fuel filter or injector problems reduce power.

Exhaust and catalytic converter

A blocked exhaust or failing catalytic converter restricts the engine.

Brakes dragging

A sticking calliper makes the scooter feel slow. Push the scooter in neutral: if it feels heavy, the brakes may be dragging.

When to get help

If the scooter also shows a warning light, misfires or makes a new noise, have it diagnosed before the problem gets worse.
