Strange Noises from Your Motorbike and What They Mean — Easy Bikes Motorcycles Shop

A new noise is your bike telling you something. Catching it early usually means a cheaper repair.

Squeal when braking

Usually dusty, glazed or worn pads. Grinding means the pads are worn through.

Whine, slap or rattle from a scooter's transmission

Often the CVT belt, rollers or clutch. Get it checked before the belt snaps.

Clunk from the rear of a motorbike

A loose or worn chain, worn sprockets or wheel bearings.

Rattle at idle

Loose panels or heat shields, a loose exhaust, or on some engines a worn cam chain.

Ticking from the engine

Can mean valve clearances need adjusting or the oil level is low. Check the oil first.

Grinding when turning the handlebars

Worn steering head bearings.
