Scooter Won't Start on a Cold Morning? — Easy Bikes Motorcycles Shop

Cold mornings expose weak batteries and other small faults. Before you call for help, try these checks.

Side stand, brake and kill switch

Most scooters need the side stand up and a brake lever pulled before the starter will work. Check the kill switch is set to run.

Battery

Cold reduces battery power. Slow cranking, clicking or a dim dashboard usually mean the battery is weak. If the scooter is not ridden every day, a battery maintainer helps in winter.

Smart key

On keyless scooters, a weak key fob battery can stop the scooter starting.

Fuel

Fuel that has been in the tank for months can cause starting problems.

Do not keep cranking

Cranking for a long time flattens the battery further. If it does not start after a few short tries, stop and get help.

When it is more than the battery

If a new battery goes flat quickly, the charging system may be faulty. We test both.
