How to Read Your MOT Advisories — Easy Bikes Motorcycles Shop

When your bike passes its MOT, the certificate may still list advisories. They are worth reading carefully.

Pass, minor, advisory

Advisories are items that passed but are close to the limit or may need attention soon. Minor defects are recorded but do not cause a fail. Major and dangerous defects mean a fail.

Common motorcycle advisories

Tyres close to the legal limit or showing cracking, brake pads or discs wearing, corrosion, slight oil leaks, play in bearings and worn chains.

Which to fix first

Anything affecting tyres, brakes or steering should be dealt with promptly, because these items affect safety and can turn into failures quickly.

Check online

You can see your bike's MOT history and advisories on GOV.UK. It is also a useful check when buying a used bike.
