Can You Ride a Scooter in London Without a Full Licence? — Easy Bikes Motorcycles Shop

Yes. Many London riders start on a 125cc scooter with a CBT instead of a full motorcycle licence. Here are the rules.

What a CBT lets you ride

With a valid driving licence and CBT certificate, you can ride a motorcycle or scooter up to 125cc on L plates.

What you cannot do

You cannot carry a passenger or ride on motorways while riding on a CBT.

How long a CBT lasts

A CBT certificate is valid for two years. To keep riding after that, take another CBT or pass your full motorcycle test.

Insurance

You need insurance before you ride. If you will use the scooter for food delivery, you need cover for that type of work.

Which scooter

125cc automatics such as the Honda PCX and Yamaha NMAX are easy to ride and economical.
