The ULEZ covers the whole of London, so riders often ask whether their scooter has to pay the daily charge.

The rule

Motorcycles and scooters that meet the Euro 3 emissions standard do not pay the ULEZ charge. As a general guide, bikes registered after July 2007 usually meet Euro 3. Older non-compliant bikes pay a daily charge to ride in the zone.

New scooters

Brand-new 2026 scooters such as the Yamaha NMAX and Honda PCX meet current emissions standards, so ULEZ is not a concern.

Congestion charge

Motorcycles and scooters are exempt from the London congestion charge.

Check your bike

Use the vehicle checker on the TfL website with your registration number before you buy an older bike.

Buying used

When buying an older used scooter, check its ULEZ status first, as the daily charge adds up quickly.
