Buying a Used Scooter in London: A Checklist — Easy Bikes - Motorcycle Rentals, Recovery, Sell

A used scooter can be great value if you check it properly. Use this checklist before you hand over any money.

Paperwork

Make sure the V5C logbook matches the seller's name and address and the bike's frame number. Check the MOT history and advisories online on GOV.UK. Ask for service records.

Condition

Look at tyres, brakes, lights, panels and mirrors. Check for oil leaks and signs of a drop, such as scuffed bar ends or panels.

Drive belt

On automatic scooters, a worn CVT belt causes poor pull-away. Ask when it was last changed.

Start it cold

Ask the seller not to start the bike before you arrive. Listen for rattles and check it starts easily.

Test ride

Check it pulls smoothly, the brakes work evenly and no warning lights stay on.

Buy with confidence
